Make sure that your first coat of paint is properly cured so that it wont come off when you distress it. Heres how to achieve this look. The key is to sand random areas that tend to get bumped or scratched naturally so it looks organic.
Step 2 The second coat. Really chalk paint is always a great option for painting furniture. Apply one coat of paint to your piece.
If you choose to repaint it clean the surface with soap and water to remove dirt and grime. An actual unlit candle will suffice. A simple change like new knobs distressing or maybe stenciling will give the furniture a whole new look.
A shop vac or vacuum. To distress wood and laminate furniture start by stripping off the finish using 120-grit sandpaper and wiping the furniture with a damp cloth to remove any dirt and dust. Let it dry completely.
To distress the finish and make the painted surface look more naturally weathered take the sander back to the surface of the furniture when the paint has dried. We recommend letting the first coat dry for at least 24 hours when you are using the wet-distressing technique. You can also repeat the process on the same piece with several layers of paint.
