Water Wash Painting Furniture
If you have a piece of furniture in your home that could use a little graywash treatment I hope this gives you the confidence to GO FOR IT.
Water wash painting furniture. If you used 5 ounces of paint for instance youll want to add somewhere between 18 and 24 ounces of water. Complete the furniture cleaning process by buffing the surface with a dry cloth. Here you can see where the diluted paint has been applied.
To use your color wash as a stain dip your lint free cloth into your 11 paintwater solution and rub the cloth over your piece. Allow the surface to dry before a final wipe with methylated spirit or white spirit. Fill a medium-sized plastic bucket or basin with 2 to 4 inches 51 to 102 cm of warm water.
LOL I aim for roughly a 11 ratio of water to paint. Try it on unfinished pieces with paneling details for the wash to accentuate like the cabinet pictured. 1 Paint it white all-over and wipe off excess paint with a rag.
Use a leftover scrap of wood to check your paints consistency. Add more paint for a less transparent finish. If using acrylics or watercolors paint quickly or wet the canvas with water first to avoid brushstrokes since watercolors and acrylics dry quickly.
Test on a scrap piece of wood or an inconspicuous area then adjust the ratio to your liking. I simply prefer to use a cloth because I think it tends to be less messy. Stir your water and paint as you go.
Mix white latex paint with water in a 11 ratio which will give you a nice transparent look. Youll look twice at that dated furniture at the thrift store now wont you. On brand-new wood thin the paint less say 4 or 5.
